Background

Bonnie Klostermann holds a full time administrative position in UGA’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Office of Global Programs (OGP), where she provides administrative support to the Peanut and Mycotoxin Innovation Lab (PMIL). With a M. S. degree in Community Counseling and over 17 years of progressive responsibilities and management experience in the banking industry, Bonnie brings a full range of skills and education to her position.

PMIL: What is your area of expertise and can you tell us how it brought you to PMIL?

Klostermann: "Originally I studied to be a school counselor, after five years of counseling, I changed directions and began working in the banking industry. I retired from the bank in 2007, after 17 years of service. I was interested in a position in the Athens community with a stable work environment that included good benefits, so I looked at the University. I started with UGA in 2007, as a Senior Accountant at the UGA Foundation responsible for processing online donations. In 2011, I was promoted to department manager overseeing a staff of 10 gift accountants. In 2013, I was ready for a new opportunity with UGA. The Office of Global Programs offered new experiences in an international environment which intrigued my interest in travel and meeting people from diverse cultures."

PMIL: What is your job here at PMIL?

Klostermann: "My title is Administrative Specialist. I handle the day-to-day office administration for both OGP and PMIL, which includes greeting visitors, processing check requests, travel and event planning and a host of other daily tasks. I work closely with Allen (PMIL business manager) to ensure that vendor payments, travel authorities and travel expense statements are handled in a timely manner, as well as comply with UGA policies and procedures."

PMIL: What do you enjoy about your work here?

Klostermann: "I appreciate the variety of interactions and administrative responsibilities. I really enjoy meeting and hosting the international delegations and scholars. Providing occasional campus tours gives me the opportunity to get out of the office and enjoy the beautiful UGA campus. It’s a position where I never get bored, because every day holds new opportunities and challenges."

PMIL: What goals do you have for your position here?

Klostermann: "To provide a positive experience for everyone that comes into contact with the Office of Global Programs and PMIL. It’s important to me that the office runs efficiently and that the staff, students and visitors receive the support they need in a professional, yet welcoming environment."
